Best Baby Parenting Books!
The Happiest Baby on the Block
The concept in this book that makes it a #1 is the 5 s's. Swaddle, side, swing, shush, suck. It takes the author several chapters to fully explain the method but well worth the read. If you have a baby who is not easily calmed, go and get this one immediately! :-) This book also had a DVD at our local library. I checked it out and my husband watched it too. He also thought it was valuable.
The Baby Whisperer by Traci Hogg
The first thing I needed when I was a new mommy was the acronym and concept of S.L.O.W. Traci says instead of rushing in and desperately trying to get your baby to stop crying go slow.
Stop: Really stop moving stop everything.
Look: Look at your baby.
Observe: This is the best/ hardest part.
Watch your baby and see how they are holding their body, moving, what does the cry sound like.
What to do?: Now with that information decide what to do.
She gives several FANTASTIC charts in the book that help you understand your babies needs based on their body language and cries. I copied the charts, put them on one paper, and went to KInko's and blew it up to poster size. I used that poster all the time! I highly recommend this book.
